Today’s top 5 list:
Ranking the best 2000s WrestleMania shows!
There were several great WrestleManias in this era, but you likely have a good idea of what will rank at the top.
Let’s jump in.
5. WrestleMania XX (2004). It’s not a main event I prefer to watch again due to obvious reasons, but it’s still one of the better wrestling matches in WrestleMania history. Yes, this show does have that Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar match, but it also features Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle, The Rock and Mick Foley reuniting against Evolution, and an underrated Chris Jericho vs. Christian match.
4. WrestleMania XXIV (2008). I wasn’t sure where to rank this one, but it belongs in the mix. Edge vs. The Undertaker is fantastic and one of the more underrated WrestleMania main events ever. And we all remember the closing stretch of Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair. The Money in the Bank Ladder Match, won by CM Punk, is fun, and so is the Triple Threat Match between Randy Orton, John Cena, and Triple H.
3. WrestleMania 21 (2005). Big time! The Hollywood follow-up to WrestleMania XX was better, in my opinion, because it had two matches that rivaled or exceeded the aforementioned main event. Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels is a classic, and the first Money in the Bank Ladder Match (which also includes the person that makes it difficult to watch WrestleMania XX again) is still one of the best. Elsewhere, there’s Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero, The Undertaker vs. Randy Orton, and Batista dethroning Triple H.
2. WrestleMania XIX (2003). The Safeco Field setting was tremendous, and the card lived up to the hype. Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels was my favorite match, but you had The Rock vs. Steve Austin (his last match until returning at WrestleMania 38 to face Kevin Owens) and Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar as two must-see attractions. Speaking of which, while not a legendary match, Hulk Hogan vs. Vince McMahon exceeded expectations in a huge way. Don’t forget about Triple H vs. Booker T! Just kidding. What a debacle.
1. WrestleMania X-Seven (2001). The gold standard. I’ve written reviews about WrestleMania 17. I’ve done videos about WrestleMania 17. What’s not to like about WrestleMania 17? It’s my favorite pro wrestling pay-per-view of all time, so it’s the easy choice for the No. 1 spot.
