Blake’s WWF Superstars 2/19/94 Review: Better Than You

In this WWF Superstars 2/19/94 review, Bret Hart and Owen Hart continue exchanging words, Lex Luger has a guarantee for Yokozuna, and much more.

Let’s jump in.

  • Show: WWF Superstars
  • Date: February 19, 1994

VIDEO: Owen Hart hypes his upcoming match with Marty Jannetty, then taunts Bret Hart ahead of their WrestleMania X match.

Owen Hart vs. Marty Jannetty

Vince reminds us Jannetty will team with Razor Ramon to go for the tag titles on Raw. Owen once again rips up his glasses in front of a bunch of kids. That scoundrel. It probably shouldn’t surprise anyone that these two work a solid match, with Jannetty on the attack early until Owen catches him with the Sharpshooter for the win.

VIDEO: Bret Hart weighs in on Lex Luger vs. Yokozuna. He’s fine with either being his opponent. Bret continues to push that Owen has brought their issues on himself, and he’s starting to be more open to them wrestling each other.

RINGSIDE: Johnny Polo joins Vince on commentary.

Kwang (w/Harvey Whippleman) vs. Scott Taylor

The future Scotty 2 Hotty in action here. He showcases a quick flurry of impressive offense, but Kwang starts spraying. You don’t want to mess with Kwang’s spray. Kwang squashes poor Taylor for the easy victory.

VIDEO: ICO PRO commercial with Luger. You’ve got to want it!

VIDEO: Stan Lane shares an interview with Shawn Michaels, who explains the rules and strategy of the first-ever Ladder Match at WrestleMania X. He taunts Razor and guarantees the win to become undisputed Intercontinental Champion.

Heidi Lee Morgan vs. (c) Alundra Blayze – WWF Women’s Title

Polo is pretty funny on commentary. Hey, at least we’re getting a title match, though my prediction is we won’t be getting a title change. Morgan takes it to Blayze, but Blayze hits the Northern Lights Suplex to retain the title.

VIDEO: WrestleMania X report with Todd Pettengill. He continues to push all the big matches on the show, including Randy Savage vs. Crush in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. We get interviews from Crush and Savage. Pettengill also reveals Earthquake vs. Ludvig Borga, and Bam Bam Bigelow and Luna Vachon vs. Doink and Dink have been added to the card. We also get a promo from Sy Sperling, who is the president of Hair Club for Men. He wants to give Bastion Booger a makeover.

The Earthquake vs. Jim Massenger

Before the match, Vince announces that Burt Reynolds will be a special guest ring announcer at WrestleMania. Massenger is a big dude, so this is officially a HOSS FIGHT. Inset promo from Earthquake and he’s gonna destroy Borga. Before he does that, he squashes Massenger for the win.

VIDEO: Hype for Bret vs. Adam Bomb on next week’s Superstars.

RINGSIDE: Funeral Parlor with Paul Bearer. Yokozuna is the guest, and he’s joined by Jim Cornette and Mr. Fuji. Cornette loses it on Bearer and wants to get the hell out of there. Bearer senses fear from them regarding WrestleMania, and Cornette tries to debunk that idea by calling Luger crooked. HERE COMES LUGER. Luger takes aim at Cornette, then notes his confidence in beating Yokozuna. Cornette mouths off again. and Luger guarantees victory. This was an effective segment from Luger and Cornette.

Mike Miraldo vs. Diesel (w/Shawn Michaels)

If only Miraldo had been one-third of the nWo instead of Diesel. In a fun moment, Diesel sees Nikolai Volkoff in the front row and nearly hauls off on him. Inset promo from Razor, who basically says Diesel won’t be able to help Shawn Michaels in their Ladder Match. Diesel destroys Miraldo for the quick victory.

VIDEO: Lane shares an interview with Owen. He’s not having any second thoughts about his match with Bret. Owen thinks Bret is scared because he knows he’s better than him. Great promo from Owen. He was so good.

VIDEO: Commercial for WWF Royal Rumble on Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. I loved that game!

VIDEO: Whippleman hypes Bomb’s match with Bret on next week’s Superstars.

BLAKE’S TAKE ON WWF SUPERSTARS 2/19/94

Overall Rating: 7.0/10

Thoughts: As usual, an episode more on storylines than in-ring actrion, but I thought it was an effective one. The Luger/Yokozuna segment was a good sell for their match, as were the promos from Bret and Owen. And again, Polo was entertaining on commentary playing off of Vince.
